For the 25 years of the Pokémon franchise, Nintendo unveiled a series of new games this Friday, February 26 in a video event called “Pokémon Presents”. First of all, the highly anticipated remake of the games “Pokémon Pearl” and “Diamond” will arrive on Nintendo Switch at the end of 2021. Called “Sparkling Pearl” and “Sparkling Diamond”, these games will reproduce the intrigues of the titles released in Europe on Nintendo DS in 2007 with improved graphics for the Nintendo Switch. However, we remain below what Nintendo was able to offer for “Pokémon Sword” and “Shield” in 2019. These games are developed by ILCA and not by Game Freak, the usual studio of the franchise.

Perhaps more exciting for fans, Nintendo also announced this Friday the arrival, in early 2022, of an open world game called “Pokémon Legends Arceus”. Like “Diamond and Pearl,” the game will take place in the Sinnoh region, but at an ancient time in a wilder world. The goal for players will be to complete the very first Pokédex in the region. It will be possible to catch and fight wild Pokémon, but the combat between trainers seems absent.

The Pokémon franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary this Saturday, February 27. It was in fact in 1996 that the games “Pocket Monsters: Red and Green” were released in Japan, a few years before arriving in Europe under the title “Pokémon blue version” and “red version”, in 1999. The many Video games subsequently published have sold more than 368 million copies, while 30 billion playing cards have been sold, according to The Pokémon Company.
